Your Projects Need Careful Consideration to Succeed

Your Projects Need Careful Consideration to Succeed

Businesses are always leveraging the latest technology to overcome modern challenges, but the implementation of new tools often comes with new challenges of its own. Chief among these is determining whether or not the new tool actually solves a problem for your organization. The more deliberate your intentions for implementing a new tool, the more likely you are to see a return on investment for it. Here are ways you can make sure that all new technology is appropriate for your business’ needs.

What Are Your Business’ Needs?

The obvious first step toward figuring out if and when to implement new tools for your organization is to assess its needs. The general rule is to only implement technology if it serves some specific purpose, as otherwise you could be adding more tools than necessary to your infrastructure, making it more complicated and complex than it needs to be. In other words, you need to be deliberate about the way you implement new technology; don’t just add new tools to your business for the sake of doing so. This will create more problems that it solves.

Take a Beat

Before you add a new technology solution to your infrastructure, it’s often not a bad idea to just wait it out and see if it’s something that you actually need or if it’s something that you want when you are wrapped up in the moment. It’s easy to see the benefits of a new solution when you want it, but it might save you valuable time and resources to simply alter your approach and utilize tools you already have rather than add a new one to your toolbox. At the end of the day, if you still think it’s something you need, don’t be afraid to implement it, but only in a strategic and calculated fashion.

Assign a Competent Project Manager

Whoever is put in charge of implementing this new solution should know what they are doing, period. The project manager should be someone who is knowledgeable and confident that they can carry out the deployment to your specifications. You don’t want to be breathing down their neck throughout the process, so if you can assign this important task to someone who you trust to carry it out successfully, the chances of it going well increase dramatically. Have a project manager be your single point of contact for the entire process, and take the time to build out training schedules or deal with changes that might happen during the implementation process.

Stand Behind Your Choice and Get to Training

The biggest challenge for any new technology solution is to get your team on board with using it. There will be pushback, but you need to stand your ground. Some employees are resistant to change, and they will argue about why the solution needs to be implemented when it wasn’t there before. These workers need to understand that the technology is not there to threaten their day-to-day tasks but to make them easier or accomplish some other goal, and it’s your job as the boss to make sure they see the benefits. This also applies to the training sessions that you will inevitably have to administer for them.

Testing

Following implementation and training, you should focus on how to utilize your technology solution to its fullest potential. This might take some testing, but once you get it down, you will want to share the workflows with your staff and ensure that any policies established are adjusted to reflect this change. It’s also important that you notify your team that you will be training them on the solution and monitoring their usage, not to track how well they are doing with it, but to see where you can make improvements. Plus, it never hurts to ask your team for feedback; they are the ones utilizing it, after all.

Get It Working

The final stage is to see it all in action! You will likely need to make changes periodically to ensure that everything is working smoothly, but that’s to be expected with any new solution. At this point, you should know it well enough to use it for day-to-day operations.

Don’t let implementing new technology paralyze you with inaction. USA Computer Services can help your business add new tools to your infrastructure and ensure that it is being used in the most effective way possible. To learn more, reach out to us at (704) 665-1619.
