7 Funny-Yet-Sad Technology Statistics
It's embarrassing to get technology terms mixed up with other terms that have nothing to do with technology. If you've found yourself confused by the latest tech terms, then don't feel bad. According to a recent survey of 2,392 adults by Vouchercloud.net, mix ups like this are a fairly common occurrence.
In the study, people picked the definition of the word that they thought was correct via multiple choice. For those of us in the know, the results are pretty humorous, and even a little sad, because the definitions people selected are way off. What makes all of this even more funny is the fact that 61% of respondents said, "It's important to have a good knowledge of technology in this day and age." We completely agree that being familiar with technology is a big part of being successful in today's business world, and as you can tell from this study, not every person totally gets every basic technology concept.
77% of respondents could not identify what SEO means.
SEO stands for "Search-Engine Optimization."
27% identified "gigabyte" as an insect commonly found in South America.
A gigabyte is a measurement unit for the storage capacity of an electronic device.
42% said they believed a "motherboard" was "the deck of a cruise ship."
A motherboard is usually a circuit board that holds many of the key components of a computer.
23% thought an "MP3" was a "Star Wars" robot.
MP3 is an audio file.
18% identified "Blu-ray" as a marine animal.
Blu-ray is a disc format typically used to store high-definition videos.
15% said they believed "software" is comfortable clothing.
Software is a general term for computer programs.
12% said "USB" is the acronym for a European country.
USB is a type of connector.
